POPHAM COLONY

The Colonists

The colonists were a diverse group drawn from all segments of English society. With a few exceptions, only the officers of the colony have been identified. The most notable of these was Raleigh Gilbert, the nephew of the famous Sir Walter Raleigh.

Traders — Probably not a separate occupational category, but an activity shared by many.
